Follow The Leader

· Build 930

Comms

  • Follow someone in comms and see exactly what they see. Frame steps land on the same frame, pausing lands on the same frame, slow motion stays in step, and angle switches follow without a stutter or a jump back to 0:00. It works with 50 fps cameras too.
  • New option, Follow zoom & pan. Turn it on and you also see the part of the picture the person you follow has zoomed into, on any screen size. It is off by default and set per device.
  • Take control any time. Seeking, pausing, changing speed or angle, or zooming yourself while following gives you control. Following resumes after 15 seconds of not touching anything, or straight away with Back.
  • The comms bar shows who you follow in one place, on their pill, with Back and a stop button. On a tablet the pills are finger-sized, and tapping a name opens a menu to follow, show them on the timeline or mute them.
  • If the person you follow leaves, or their app goes quiet, following stops and tells you why instead of leaving you stuck.

Touch Player

  • In fullscreen a pill shows who you are following, and turns amber when you have control, with a countdown back to them. You can pick someone to follow without leaving fullscreen.
  • True full screen. The controls bar, the follow pill and the tap guide fade after 3 seconds of playback and come back with a tap or a key. They stay up while paused. Swiping between angles and markers keeps the screen clear and shows just the angle name or marker card.
  • Split view now works on sessions with more than 4 angles. It shows 4 angles, either the ones picked for the Analyse grid or a choice made in the touch player settings.
  • With an iPad keyboard, the transport keys take control while following.
  • The fullscreen button no longer needs a second tap while following someone.

Analyse

  • Dragging the playhead back on a young live session no longer jumps forward to live.
  • Switching angle keeps slow motion instead of dropping back to normal speed.
  • The clip information strip sits above the player controls instead of covering them, including in fullscreen.
  • The angle-name badge button is clearly lit when on and dim when off, including on iPad.

Sessions

  • The session list updates by itself when a session goes live or stops, including in the app added to an iPad home screen, which also gets pull-to-refresh.
  • New live sessions show their camera thumbnails as soon as the cameras deliver a frame, instead of a placeholder that looked like a failed session. A camera that is slow to connect no longer ends up with a permanent placeholder.

Server API

  • Comms chat history for apps (GET and POST /api/sessions/:id/chat, with paging), and a written follow protocol (docs/comms_protocol.md) so the iOS and tvOS apps can follow and be followed.
  • Security fix. The web chat history route did not check the session's organisation. It now returns not found for another organisation's session.
