Live Timelines and Piston integration

· Build 1.94

Timelines 1.94 introduces our first direct Timelines and Piston live integration. We know this isn’t normally a Timelines release channel, but this update is worth mentioning.

🔄 Piston integration

For Piston users, this opens up the option of using Timelines as a more powerful data-collection interface. Use MarkUps created in Angles or built directly in Timelines, with automated actions, activation links and reporting outputs, and still have the data flow straight into a live Piston timeline.

For Timelines users, there’s no more waiting until the end of a session to export data and sync it with your Piston-captured video. Markers now fill the Piston timeline at the right video timestamps while the capture is still happening.

  • 🔐 Sign in to a Piston server from Timelines using Bonjour discovery or by entering an address. The sign-in is kept in the Keychain, so it survives relaunches.
  • 🏢 Account button in the main navigation bar, with an organisation picker for multi-organisation users.
  • 🎥 Join a live session. Press Record, pick from the list of live sessions and join one. A status pill shows whether your clips are reaching Piston.
  • 🏷️ Markers on clip end. Every coded clip is sent to Piston as a marker when the clip ends, with its name, category, colour, angle, start, end, qualifiers and note.
  • ✏️ Edits and deletes sync. Edit a clip, or swipe to delete it in the timeline list, and the Piston marker follows.
  • ⏱️ Video time, not wall clock. Marker times match positions in the recorded video, even when the video is ingested slower than real time.
  • 📶 Works through network drops. Work is queued when the network or server can’t be reached, and sent when it reconnects.
  • 🛠️ Stuck items are easy to fix. After 5 failed attempts an item is parked. Tap the status pill to try again, send now, or remove failed or queued items.
  • 🔌 Detaches cleanly. When the Piston session stops, the link detaches and coding carries on locally.

🎨 Editing

  • Grid in Edit mode. A grid, on by default, makes it easier to line up and space buttons.
  • Snap to Grid. A new button beside the grid icon snaps buttons to the nearest grid guideline.

🐛 Fixed

  • Qualifiers “Last Down” and “Last Up” did not appear in the table view.
  • Incorrect Block action behaviour.
  • The qualifier “Next Up” did not work.
