Updates / Piston for iOS

Star ratings, now fully integrated with Angles

· Build 10

Piston 10 builds on the Star/Favourite feature with 1–5 star ratings that work across Piston, Angles and Angles Sync. Ratings can be shared across devices, users and workflows, or kept private when you need them to be.

Star ratings

  • Rate from 1 to 5 stars. Swipe on a marker and tap the star to open the rating menu.
  • Quick 1-star rating. Tapping the empty star on a marker still adds a 1-star rating instantly.
  • Public or private. Ratings are visible on all devices connected to your Piston Server, or you can keep them to yourself with the new private starring setting.
  • Shared with other Piston users. With public stars, ratings also carry across to clips viewed by other users.
  • Imports and Drawings archives. The same star ratings are available in the Imports Archive and the Drawings Archive.

Angles Sync

  • Ratings travel with your content. Star ratings carry across when content is imported from Angles, and when clips are exported back to Angles.
  • Auto-cutting for Angles Sync imports. Files imported through the Angles Sync application can now be auto-cut without an Importer User. This works with older Piston Servers too.

Private stars

  • Keep Stars Private. A new setting under General Settings adds a second star icon to each marker for creating private ratings.
  • Easy to tell apart. Private stars are light blue with a user icon. Public stars are yellow.
  • You still see everyone’s public stars. With private starring on, you can still see all public stars from other users, including yellow stars on the timeline. Other users never see your private stars.
  • Nothing is lost when you switch off. Private stars are kept when you turn the setting off, until you remove them yourself.
  • Clear editing mode. If a clip already has a public star and private starring is on, the rating menu opens for your private stars only. The public stars are hidden and the screen turns blue so you know which ratings you’re editing.

Star filtering and sorting

  • Filter by rating. Long-press the star filter in the Markers Sidebar, Cuts List, Drawings List or Imports Archive to filter by a specific rating.
  • Stars in the Filter Menu. Add a star rating to the Filter Menu to combine it with other filters and save it as a Saved Filter.
  • Choose which stars count. Filter by private stars only, public stars only, or any star. By default, filtering follows the star visibility setting on your device.
  • Remembered for each session. Your star filter is restored when you leave a session and come back.
  • Sort the Cuts List by rating. Sort from highest to lowest.

Improved

  • Saved Filters. Filter Presets are now called Saved Filters, matching Angles and other Fulcrum products.
  • Cleaner sidebar. The eye icon for hiding MarkUp overlays and the MarkUp-to-sidebar buttons are hidden when there’s no active MarkUp on screen.

Fixed

  • The Filter Menu now scrolls as a whole, so all your Saved Filters can be viewed. Previously only one was shown at a time.
