Custom tap controls, cut trimming and richer Amplify uploads
Piston 9.99 adds a lot of control: how you tap to mark, how you trim and share cuts, and how you upload to Amplify.
📱 Overlay tap controls
- Choose your layout. In Settings, pick Default, Lightweight MarkUp, Minimal or Custom.
- Custom layouts. Set your own pane split and give each pane its own settings and behaviour, with different actions for a short tap and a long tap.
- Custom Marker action. Assign it to any pane to create a marker in a single tap, with no need for the Marker Sidebar, a MarkUp or a keyboard.
📋 JSON import and automatic cutting
- Choose whether imported markers are cut automatically. A new Cut setting controls whether markers created through JSON import are automatically cut from Angles.
- Choose which markers are cut. Piston can also read the current JSON file in the session’s Imports folder to decide which markers to cut.
✂️ Cuts and trimming
- Trim to the playhead. Set a cut’s start or end to the current playhead position from the Cut Player, or open the Trim Editor.
- Open the Trim Editor with a long press on a cut in the Cut Archive.
- Adjust In and Out visually within the bounds of the original cut. Saving updates playback start and end points, and the new times carry over when the cut is copied into a Composer. You can revert to the original length at any time.
- Apply Permanently. Creates a duplicate cut with the adjusted In and Out times, added to the Session Cuts List and the Cut Archive. Permanently trimmed cuts export and upload to Amplify using their new times. Cuts that are only trimmed visually still export at their original length.
- Trim indicators on the timeline show why playback starts and ends at different points.
☁️ Amplify uploads and sharing
- Three ways to share cuts. Upload each cut as its own timeline, all cuts as one appended timeline, or all cuts as a Composer.
- Choose the order. For appended timelines, use chronological order, the order you selected, or the order currently shown in the Cuts List.
- Folders and subfolders. Upload into subfolders on Amplify, and create folders and subfolders as you upload.
- Keep working. Minimise uploads while they run, and they continue in the background if you leave Piston.
- Choose angles. When sharing several cuts, to Amplify or not, select or deselect the angles to include.
🎬 Composer
- Sort clips by Session Name A-Z, Marker Name A-Z or chronological order.
- Filter clips by marker, qualifier or session.
📥 Imports Archive
- Undownloaded Imports filter. Show all server imports you haven’t downloaded yet.
- Download All. Download every available import from all server sessions in one tap.
⚙️ Settings and workflow
- Open the Marker Sidebar automatically whenever you enter a session.
- Microphone audio. Include it when recording cuts using screen recording.
- Bulk cuts from selected markers. Choose between Single Angle or All Angles.
- Right-click menu on macOS. Actions that were only available by trackpad swipe are now also in the right-click menu.
- Note confirmation. The final confirmation screen now shows the note you entered before you save a marker.
- Sidebar state is remembered when you move between a partially local and a server session.
🐛 Fixed
- The CricViz API was hidden in the Third Party API menu.
